What We Believe

At St. Barnabas, we strive to live as Jesus taught and modeled - loving God with our whole being and loving others as ourselves. This means building relationships with God and each other rooted in faithfulness, generosity, openness and passion.

We are a United Methodist church committed to grace, compassion and hope. We pursue spiritual growth through worship, prayer, study and service. We seek personal holiness as we follow Jesus and practice spiritual disciplines. We also work for social holiness by serving our community with love. Our goal is to make the world a little more like the kingdom of God.

While passionate, we United Methodists also wrestle with questions humbly, remembering John Wesley's words: "In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, charity." We joyfully pray, worship and serve together - men and women, young and old, and all backgrounds. We affirm everyone's role as we follow God's call to live faithfully.

The Bible inspires and shapes our faith and practice. We earnestly study Scripture and the world. As United Methodists, we participate in spiritual disciplines to systematically grow and transform the world as Christ did. Our "method" is love.
