Dear St. Barnabas UMC Family,

I am humbly grateful and elated to be appointed as the Associate Pastor of Family Ministries to
St. Barnabas! This church has helped form me into the person I am today. My family joined St. Barnabas in August 1996 when I was fourteen years old. Twenty-five years ago, back when the Sanctuary faced the other way, our chairs folded, and youth ate supper all in that Sanctuary space, I remember vividly standing with my mom, dad, and brother, promising to uphold my vows of prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness to the United Methodist Church and St. Barnabas. I had no idea that God would lead my family and me back all these years later. A few years ago, I stood with my husband, Kevin, and our two boys, Nate and Jase, and renewed these sacred vows. While it was special for me to rejoin our church with my family, serving this congregation has been a true joy.

I have immensely enjoyed my role as the Director of Children’s Discipleship for the past four years and look forward to continuing those duties within my new role. I will also continue to lead and staff our nursery and childcare team, coordinate children’s ministries with our children’s council, collaborate with Kaitlyn, our Youth Director, and organize monthly family events. I will also be developing new ministries for our families, helping our women’s ministry, and planning worship and preaching more often.

The support and guidance provided by you and our church staff is unmatched and I know I am not alone in this mission. I ask for your prayers, grace and understanding as I transition in this new role. And know that God has arms wrapped tight around us all. Thank you St. Barnabas UMC, with my whole heart, I love you all.

With Love in Christ,

Rev. Alyssa Lawther
