WHAT is Disciple Bible Study?

Your life will be of greater value to you and to God when you spend dedicated time in HIS Word. Through systematic study of the Bible, you will learn the overarching themes that tie the two testaments together, and the who, what, and why of the storeis of the Christian faith. Priorities of heart and life will be changed by those who invest themselves in these studies. Even those who have been Christians for many years have experiencee a deepening of their faith unlike any other Bible study they have participated in. Deep, lasting friendships are developed in small groups that meet weekly to study, reflect, pray and grow together.

PURPOSE of Disciple Study

The purpose of Disciple may be summarized in the words of Ephesians 4:12, "to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ."

Jesus in the Gospels

Jesus in the Gospels is a “next generation” Disciple course. Although the daily scripture readings are typically short, the study requires careful attention to how Jesus is presented in each of the four gospels. A special feature of this class is the use of a “gospel comparison” book that puts the stories of Jesus as told in each gospel in a format that makes it easy to compare and contrast what each gospel writer reported and emphasized. Old Testament scriptures are studied to raise awareness of how Jesus and Christianity are rooted in Judaism. **** Prerequisite: Disciple I

Facilitators: Bob Reed & Randy Crutchfield  |  Wednesdays at 7:00 PM

Invitation to John

Invitation to John is a short-term Disciple course lasting 11 weeks. The Gospel of John is set apart from the other gospels and focuses on the story of Jesus as an invitation to discipleship. John is often the Gospel given to Christians new to their faith, but in fact, it is not the easiest of the four gospels to understand. John implies that discipleship is the essence of Christian life.
**** Pre-requisite: Disciple I

Invitation to Genesis

Invitation to Genesis “In the beginning . . .” These first words in Genesis may be among the most familiar words in all the Bible. Many readers of the Bible recognize Genesis as a book that describes the beginning of all things: the Creation. This is certainly true but is only part of the story—the creation of the world only takes up the first two chapters of a fifty-chapter book. What are the other chapters about?

This study approaches the Book of Genesis not simply as a story of the beginning but as a story of beginnings from start to finish. Through the study, participants will be invited to listen afresh to the witness of this opening book of the Hebrew Bible and to understand more clearly God’s purpose in beginning to form a people with the likes of Adam and Eve, Abraham and Sarah, and Jacob and Esau.

Invitation to Psalms

The human emotions expressed in the Book of Psalms rise to peaks of joy and descend into valleys of despair. In the Psalms, the promise of the reign of God meets the historical experience of God's people. Faith in God's faithfulness collides with human experiences of pain and suffering, enslavement, oppression, and exile. God's people--given voice in the Pslams--struggle to make sense of who God is and who they are, and in so doing they have composed a collection of moving testimonies of grace, glory, sorrow, and beauty unmatched in sacred literature. For students of the Psalms today, this study offers greater understanding of how these ancient texts of praise, lament, worship, and prayer can still speak to us and for us.
