Jump In at St Barnabas!
Here are twenty ways you can get involved in the Christian life at St. Barnabas United Methodist Church:
- PREPARE FOOD FOR THOSE IN NEED. The Congregational Care Committee reaches out to those in our church who are ill or bereaved. Notified by a chairperson when the need arises, volunteers prepare a dish to be delivered to the household.
- DELIVER A COFFEE CUP TO FIRST-TIME VISITORS. Every Sunday, the Evangelism Work Area prepares coffee cups to be delivered to the homes of our first-time visitors. The cups, with a greeting card and marked maps, can be picked up after the 11:00 service outside the church office door.
- JOIN A SMALL GROUP. In your packet, you will find a colorful brochure that outlines our current small group offerings. Small Groups are a great way to meet friends, experience Christian fellowship and grow in your walk with God. Contact Sheila Fiorella (817-483-1667).

TEACH A CLASS. Opportunities to teach a children's or youth Sunday School class are plenty. You can get involved in this ministry as a teacher, substitute teacher or teacher's assistant.
- USHER. Contact the church office if you are willing to serve one Sunday a month or as a substitute usher.
- ACOLYTE. Each Sunday morning, two children (3rd-6th grade) are needed for each service. Acolytes light candles and assist the pastors during the offering and Holy Communion. Periodic training is available.
- SING! At St. Barnabas, we are proud of our music ministry.
The following opportunities are available for those who like to glorify God through song:
Children's Choir - Each Wednesday 6:15 p.m. during the school year.
The Wednesday program for children includes choir, music education, Bible learning, worship, creative activities, service, fun and fellowship.
VISION Youth Choir - VISION stands for Voices In Song In Obedience To His Name.
Rehearsals are from 4:45 - 6:00 p.m. on Sundays. This choir sings each Sunday alternating between early and late worship services. All are welcome. Every other year the Youth Choir takes a summer tour giving a musical presentation as they go.
Chancel Choir - Rehearsals are from 7:30 - 9:00 p.m. on Wednesdays. This choir sings each Sunday alternating between early and late worship services. Extra opportunities come from seasonal performances including a special Advent presentation near Christmas. All adults are encouraged to attend. Rehearsals take place in the sanctuary.
Canticle Ringers - Adult Hand bell Choir rehearsals are at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesdays.
-
ENROLL IN LAY SPEAKING. The United Methodist Church offers a certified lay speaking program. Participants learn public speaking skills in order to preach when needed and assist in worship services.
- JOIN UNITED METHODIST WOMEN. United Methodist Women is an organization that holds cultural studies, raises money for missions and offers fellowship opportunities. General meetings are held each month excluding June, July and August.
Anna's Craft Circle - Second and Fourth Wednesday of each month at 9:30 a.m. Nursery provided.
- JOIN THE UNITED METHODIST MEN. The Methodist Men's group meets on the first Saturday of the month at 8 a.m. for informal breakfast and a brief program. The men also sponsor occasional service and fellowship projects.
- JOIN HILL TOPPERS. Hill toppers are a group of mostly retired older adults who meet on the third Tuesday of each month for a pot-luck meal and program.
- WORK WITH THE YOUTH. Our youth fellowship (grades 7th-12th) meets every Sunday from 6:00-8:00 p.m., beginning with snack supper for $2 and continuing with fun, music, and spiritually-based programming. Adult sponsors are needed to help with Sunday evening activities, transportation needs and special events.
- WORK WITH CHILDREN. A variety of activities are scheduled for children throughout the year, such as retreats, Advent, Christmas and Lenten events, Easter Egg Hunt, Summer Fun Fridays, Bible Study and more.
- HELP WITH VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL. Vacation Bible School is held each summer for one week, for children three years old through sixth grade. Helpers are needed to teach, lead music and
serve refreshments.
- ASSIST IN THE RESOURCE CENTER. Our Resource Center includes an adult library, a children's library, audiovisual equipment and art-and-crafts closet. Volunteers are needed to maintain and organize these educational resources.
- JOIN THE ALTAR GUILD. This organization seeks to enhance the worship experience through seasonal banners, altar cloths, flowers, etc.
- ASSIST WITH CONFIRMATION CLASSES. Confirmation is held every spring for sixth graders who desire to explore full membership in the church. Classes discuss church history and major Christian beliefs. Field trips and retreats are sometimes held.
- GET INVOLVED IN MISSION. Our Mission/Outreach Work Area regularly offers opportunities to serve God. Past projects have included food drives, Thanksgiving baskets, lawn care for elderly, and foreign missionary support. A bi-annual mission trip is offered.
- COMPLETE YOUR PLEDGE CARDS. Financial and service commitment cards have been placed in your packet to complete. This is a tangible step in fulfilling the membership commitments we made at the altar. When we joined St. Barnabas, all of us answered the question: WILL YOU SUPPORT THE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH WITH YOUR PRAYERS, PRESENCE, GIFTS AND SERVICE? Your completed cards may be turned into the church office.
